The other day someone asked me…
“What’s the #1 book you suggest for real estate investing?”
And my answer was not what you might think.
What was it?
“Start with Why,” by Simon Sinek.
Here’s why:
Most beginner real estate investors follow these “gurus” on Instagram who tell them…
“You can start without any money…”
“This is the best strategy for 2023”
“Here’s the secret to building a 7 figure portfolio”
But the problem is…
Real estate investing isn’t a “cookie-cutter” industry. What works for one person might not work for another.
And that’s because we all have different goals.
The Instagram gurus?
Their goal is likely to become a millionaire and get as many doors as possible, no matter what it takes.
Me?
I want to own the least amount of doors for the most amount of money.
And this is why I suggest you read Start with Why.
Because you’ll NEVER know what strategy is best for you…
Or which financial options are best for YOU…
Until you know your WHY.
In other words…
You need to have a vision of the life you want to live and what you want your portfolio to look like.
And you need to know WHY you want those things.
For example, maybe you want to give your kids the life you never had growing up…
Maybe you want to escape your 9-5 to have more control over your income and schedule…
Or maybe you want to travel the world and work from anywhere.
Whatever reasons you have…
You must have them clear in your mind BEFORE you do anything else.
Because your “why” will tell you what to do next.
It will guide you and help you make decisions that align with the life you want…
And it will help you say “no” to the things that are a distraction.
So that’s why I tell anyone getting started – or even those wanting to grow their portfolio – to start with their WHY.
Clarity is the cure for overwhelm.
